Heard That

The 2 Things You Must Do to Be Heard at the Club Scene and Not Lose Your Voice in the Process!
A surprising number of young men email me regarding the difficulty they are having being heard at the club scene. What is happening is that they are yelling and are ending up with sore throats. Is there a way to solve this problem aside from not speaking?
The answer lies in learning how to place your voice properly in order to take the pressure – the strain – the wear and tear – off your throat and vocal folds (cords). The soreness, discomfort or even possible temporary loss of voice is known as vocal abuse. Damage to the vocal folds, albeit temporary, is something you should avoid because continuing with the same practices can lead to permanent damage.
The 2 things you must do if you want to be heard in a loud or noisy environment is to learn to:
1. use your chest to power your sound; and,
2. project your voice instead of shouting or yelling.
The beauty of projection is that it not only sounds better for your listener, but it is also easier to accomplish than yelling. When You Can successfully increase your volume without shouting, you will discover your other 4 resonators (which include the cavities of your voice box, throat, mouth and nose) doing much less work and your chest cavity doing more of it. You will also have more energy by the end of the day because yelling or shouting takes a lot of work and saps your strength. Projecting your voice does not.
What you will also discover, however, is that the voice coming from your chest will be deeper, richer, warmer, sexier. If you are not happy with the sound of your speaking voice as it is presently, imagine having a sound that captivates your listener.
It is important to understand that when I talk about your speaking voice, also known as your habitual voice, I am referring to what you hear on your answering machine – not the sound you hear in your head. Unfortunately, what you hear in your voicemail is exactly how you are recognized by everyone else.
If your goal is to be able to be heard comfortably at the bar scene or at a club, learn how to power your sound from your chest and discover a voice that will be much more attractive to the woman you are hoping to impress. A dynamic speaking voice does wonders for your self-image and confidence as well!
